This infographic was able to bring the feel of theater into a single design.The colors used in the Wicked section were a perfect choice that fit well with the subject. The charts that were used to show the costs of the show were ones that have already been done. It would have been nice to see something a little more creative to show these costs especially when discussing such a creative topic. The top image and header was a great way to grab viewers attention and the drawn back curtain down the side was a nice addition. The chart showing the wages of those who work in the musical theater business was great because it showed an image for each of the different jobs represented. .  The stars that were used to show the wages per week on Broadway were nicely done and helped to visually show the difference in wages from a leading role to a featured part. The images of the kitchen appliances helped viewers to visualize running their appliances continuously for thousands of years. Overall a very good infographic that grabs viewer’s attention and keeps them reading.

I am not familiar with the stats for the musical theater industry but they all seem to make sense. It is no secret that is costs millions to put on a musical production. The amount of money that was invested into Wicked and to see how much they have grossed is amazing. It was interesting to see the breakdown of the costs that go along with a musical. I was surprised to see that 17% of the investment goes toward insurance and transportation. I am not surprised to see that marketing is where most of the money goes because that is extremely important to the success of the show. The data on other musicals was helpful when comparing just how well Wicked really did. I found in interesting that Cirque du Soleil has never had a show fail where as many shows on Broadway do not make it. The wages section was informative because it showed how much each different profession in the industry make. The data on the CO2 emissions was interesting to find out.Who knew that the musical theater industry accounted for so much CO2 emissions? It was nice to hear that in 2009 most of all sets were recycled and now many shows have cut back on their CO2 emissions. All the information was interesting and informative.

Infographic Design: A

Certainly no small amount of time went into this infographic design. The stereo motif works well with the subject matter is music piracy and the loss of money it creates for the music companies and musicians involved. Quite clever to use the glowing decibel levels as graphing options as well as bigger knobs to show larger percentages. The digital type at the bottom was  a nice touch as well that didn’t go unnoticed. Even the inclusion of movies wasn’t awkward but the silhouette shadows of movie goers didn’t work quite as well within the design of the infographic. But still a great effort and lovely infographic.

I certainly don’t know if the stats and figures are correct for movie and music piracy but they certainly seem on the level. Does anyone know anyone who hasn’t stolen music or a movie? I bet it would be hard to find anyone under the age of 50 who doesn’t “own” some music that fell off a truck, so to speak. The infographic does a good job showing many statistics to support their point, which is piracy steals from the artists, but also from the audience – lost revenue hurts all of us.

i am assuming the infographic design was supposed to mimic a cheesy and out-of-date poster you might find on a junior high gym wall. If so, this infographic does a great job of taking me back to the 80s when this type of poster was prevalent especially as a public service ad or notification. I will point out a few nice details I think were intentional to juice up the comedy in this funny infographic: turkey leg in hand while running to fridge, face on female co-worker as man lunges in her direction, bored expression by dog as it is lifted and the hairy legs under the covers for bedroom gymnastics. Well done, indeed.

The text in this infographic is supposed to be tongue-in-cheek so we need to rate it based on its comedic value not on how helpful the information they provide on getting the ideal healthy beach body you have always wanted. I did smile at the “ideas” for treating your world as a gym such as “running to the fridge,” with turkey leg in hand and performing office lunges with your crotch directed at your female co-worker. And this gem, “Consideration: There is a distinct possibility that you may look like an idiot,” while performing public transport pull-ups. And I can attest to living room dog lifting. Very humorous and you feel compelled to read to see if the next joke will be better than the last. Writing comedy is hard, harder than drama (especially in an infographic) so give it up to the writer on this, they did a good job. I’ll not touch the bedroom gymnastics visual humor with a ten foot pole.

Every infographic doesn’t have to be huge and cause you to scroll for 2 minutes trying to view all the contents. Sometimes a shorter infographic can get its message across more effectively with a striking design and this infographic on air pollution comes very close to hit the mark. The gritty design is a natural fit for this polluted subject matter. The color choices are perfect and the textures are wonderful. So why not an A grade for this infographic? Too much clashing artwork and graphics. Photography is used, clip art from multiple sources is also used. I would have rather seen a consistent look, even if it was silhouettes of photos as was used for the car. Still a nice effort and the weaknesses are covered by the strengths in this down and dirty design. I also had some confusion about the headline font. It didn’t fit the rest of the design. Seems like a real afterthought.

So the small size of the infographic hurt the amount of pollution facts and statistics you can fit on the image. Using the planet earth as the background was a nice effect but it really limits the information the infographic can hold as well. We only see about 10 facts on air pollution and some of them aren’t that interesting such as you can see air pollution from space. But the infographic also provides some real alarming news about air pollution such as over 500,000 people in India die due to air pollution. That is an unreal number. I would have found sources a valuable addition to this infographic.

This car infographic doesn’t do anything to give itself a flat tire, in fact it is a very safe design that looks professional. That is why we gave it an average grade. It doesn’t break any design rules and doesn’t go past any design boundaries either. Grey and red are good color choices but they aren’t used with any real excitement. The car images are decent, but not anything to catch your eye. Some recognizable celebrity photographs are matched besides their respective fast and expensive cars, but some illustrations would have been nice. A safe infographic that doesn’t go over the speed limit.

The information on the fast and expensive cars and their owners follows the same pace as the design. You get enough to information to cover the basics such as the name of the car, the celebrity drivers, car prices and the time at which it can go from 0 – 60 mph. All standard statistics, but you don’t get one interesting fact with each car listed. Again, not much time needed to dig deeper, one lap around and you are ready for the finish flag.

This infographic provides money saving tips that focus on getting better gas mileage and providing better fuel economy. A good thing in today’s world of high gas prices.

If you can’t draw or illustrate why not try using actual images of objects? I love this idea and think it work very well. The objects, mostly toys, are used creatively to provide the graphics for this infographic. cars, duckies, balls, and dolls all take the place of clip art or custom artwork. Photography and clever positioning work well to make this infographic fun to look at. The color scheme is a good match using purples and teals. Font choices are also inline with the light-hearted graphics.

While the driving tips aren’t gong to cause any jaw to drops or heads to spin, the advice given is solid and helpful. Advice on breaking, accelerating, obeying the speed limits and other driving tips are peppered with statistics on how these changes in driving behavior helps. Such as, driving at 80mph causes an increase in 25% of fuel consumption. Something to think about as you race down the highway, guzzling gas. Fill up on this infographics, it delivers good advice for better fuel economy.

I give respect for trying to keep a connected or circuit board motif but it feels like it wasn’t part of the designer process, which seems to be showing separate boxes for each web host platform company. Comparisons are fairly compartmentalized and the design only further separates the comparisons being made. The color is a little heavy handed in the infographic, starting with the purple background giving extreme weight to the design. The graphics are simple and seems to be clipped and not used with a consistent look and feel. But each box follows the same plan and so you can more easily compare the hosts. Not bad, but could have been better.

The information for each host is similar but different stats are used sometimes which is confusing, at least a little bit. Sometimes I see servers, sometimes its employees, sometimes its data being processed. I appreciate the statistics being provided for choosing my web host, I just wish it was consistent with each host. Of course, the most important number is front and center, the price. I think an asterisk needs to be added as none of these truly offer unlimited bandwidth. You will get throttled or limited if you site takes to much bandwidth on all these web hosts. Unlimited storage is also crafty, as they will limit the number of files you have, if not the space.

Another great infographic effort from our friends at MDG Advertising. This time they tackle the somewhat controversial subject of personalized search. While many people may not know that Google tracks their every click while searching, most understand that their search habits are being scrutinized by the Big G. This social media infographic looks at the pros and cons of personalized search and shows some statistics you my find surprising.

From MDG: Online search has steadily improved to provide Web results that are more relevant, recent, and reliable than ever. Unfortunately, today’s evolution toward a more personalized search experience is being met with major opposition from Web users concerned about their privacy.

The infographic goes on to indicate that more than half of respondents believe that the relevance and quality of search results have gotten better with time. In comparison to 2004, there has been a slight drop in the number of respondents who say that search engines always deliver exactly what they want, while there has been a leap in the percentage of those who are satisfied most of the time.

On the other hand, personalized search does not receive the same warm response, with 65 percent of respondents saying that personalized search problems may include a reduction in the amount and quality of the search results. An even larger problem is that 73 percent of respondents claim it to be an outright invasion of privacy.

For now, it remains to be seen whether personal privacy or search quality will ultimately come out on top

I love it when you can tell some thought and attention to detail was involved with an infographic and its design. You can see someone really cared when designing this infographic on personalized search. The color combinations are a good fit, with soft blues and bright orange to highlight information. The graphics looked like they were custom drawn or at least kept within certain graphic style. Using progressively larger arrows to show a increasing graph was a cuter and fun idea. The infographic is broken up in easy to read sections and the font used works as a headline, content and graph text. Even the choices of condensed and regular fonts go smoothly. A excellent design that get a good grade for getting personal.

Personalized search statistics are plentiful in the infographic. How searchers responded to questions such as “are search results fair” and are personalized search results fair” are answered with percentages and multiple choices. More data is supplied on what the world thinks concerning fining better results with personal search results, whether or not users what personal search results and how they feel about privacy issues. The statistics go beyond by showing how in depth personalized search goes by showing age, race and even income stats. Plenty to see here and a little bit to be worried about, unless you are Google.

What’s is not to love with this video infographic? The designer/videographer/animator used a great neutral color pallet and added a splash of muted reds and pinks to draw visual interest. The screens and information transition in a whimsical and logical way. Each statistic and graphic is Well though out and leads to the next bit of information. This is so clever and well done I am hopeful for the future of video infographics. Everything works well together include the typeface chose and the illustration style of all the graphics. My only one small grips is the music seems to repeat and therefore I heard a gap of silence, but that is a very small nitpick on an excellent infographic about Pinterest. Well done and color me impressed!

The intro provided by MDG explains much of what is contained in this video infographic and you should really watch the whole video (2 minutes and 43 seconds) to take it all in. I watched it twice for fun and once for this review. The information is mostly statistics about Pinterest and why you should use it for your site’s marketing and social media needs. They list popular companies such as Whole Foods, Etsy, West Elm, and Real Simple that use Pinterest as a traffic producer and brand energizer. The demographics are highlighted and they show examples of how the process of pinning works at Pinterest.
